Rudy Vallee faced a fruit-throwing interruption at the Metropolitan Theatre in Boston during a week opening, as two overripe grapefruits shattered stage props and cymbals. Three youths were escorted to the police station but released after Vallee and the manager declined charges.

Representative Hull of Tennessee asked a veterans subcommittee to approve his bill for an $850,000 general medical and surgical hospital of 300 beds in middle Tennessee. He testified that central Tennessee veterans must be sent at least 250 miles for care and the committee took the bill under advisement.
National guard units from Richmond Lynchburg and Roanoke left for Danville to relieve the 116th infantry at the Schoolfield strike area. Governor Pollard ordered the deployment based on Acting Adjutant General Samuel G. Waller’s recommendation. The maximum active duty for the 116th infantry troops expires Monday.
In Chicago on January 23, Hobart Smith, an assistant cashier at Union Station, claimed a "young tough fellow" forced him to give up $10,000. By the next day his story collapsed and he confessed the tale was false. authorities found the money hidden at his home.
