Two-car collision at Shelby and New Streets left Ruth Long 40 and Callie Franklin 70 with cuts, bruises and scratches. Ruth Long treated and released at Holston Valley Community Hospital. Callie Franklin treated and released. Car driven by Ruth Long collided with Carolen Common 16 of 1300 Wilcox Drive. Police said no charges yet. Segregationists Make New Moves In Memphis Transit
AP reports segregation forces in Memphis moved to link city owned bus service with an indictment against the old Memphis Transit Co. A criminal information was filed Thursday against the new Memphis Transit Management Co which runs the buses Citywide. The January 10 indictment targeted the old firm for operating without enforcing a segregated seating law for streetcars. The old company had sold its airbus system months earlier, limiting immediate effects while the Metropolitan Transit Authority said policy would not change.
