Frigid weekend air across Virginia Arkansas Tennessee Mississippi Louisiana and Missouri left a death toll of five with more fatalities reported as temperatures rebounded. Sheriff John W. Owens and W B Jones froze to death near Canton Mississippi after their hunting boat capsized Willis C Walker formerly of St Joseph Missouri died in Zwolle Louisiana from exposure. Traffic accidents and a unidentified man dying in Tennessee were also noted. Temperatures rose from subzero in the Shenandoah Valley to around 30 in parts of the Mississippi River region as weather conditions moderated.

Professor A Fleetwood Roller of the East Tennessee State Teachers College died in Appalachian Hospital Johnson City yesterday from septic poisoning. Disaster’s Greatest Air Crash Blamed on Fog
Sixteen people died when a T. A. Maddux airliner attempting to land near Oceanside California crashed in heavy fog. The 16 aboard, eight men and eight women, were burned beyond recognition as the plane plowed into the earth and burst into flames.
