Death for killing of Mrs Dean in Franklin Tennessee
An elderly rooming house operator Mrs Betty Burge and her son Sherman Burge were sentenced to death by a Williamson County jury for the murder of Mary Margaret Opinsky Dean, an itinerant waitress from Indianapolis. Bobby Woodard was acquitted as an accessory after the fact. The case arose after the throat slashing in a school yard following an accusation that Dean would implicate the Burges in a separate two year old killing. The Burges face electrocution, with date deferred pending appeal.

Four Young Men Die in Springfield Car Crash
Four Springfield men died when a truck rear ended their car on U S Highway 41 near here Wednesday night. The victims are Herbert Mantio 29 Walter L Smith 27 William Poole 20 and George Daniels 16 all of Springfield. The truck driver Avia Poole of Hopkinsville Ky was returning from Nashville. Mantio and Poole died within minutes. Daniels and Smith passed away later in a Nashville hospital.
