Trial of Minister Norris Resumes in Texas Court
In Austin on January 19 the trial of Rev. J. Frank Norris for the murder of D. E. Chipps of Fort Worth resumed after a one day recess caused by Norris illness. Norris appeared slightly pale with a severe cold. Fort Worth attorney Jesse M. Brown testified as the first defense witness regarding Chipps reputation, while the defense introduced about thirty witnesses Monday asserting Chipps was dangerous when intoxicated. Mrs. Fanny Greer testified she heard Chipps speaking with Norris and Mayor Meacham on the day of the killing, noting Meacham had called Chipps about two hours before the murder.
