The Greene County tobacco warehouse reports a 12 cent average advance per pound, with farmers able to borrow on sale receipts bringing cash down to 24 cents per pound. Final payment may lift the total near 36 cents, with contracts rapidly signed as Kingsport emerges as a trading center. Tax return guidance follows.
In East Prussia, a back to the farm movement grows as former wartime farmers' sons return to rural duties. Dr. von Batocki, ex provisional governor, notes a postwar drift from farms to cities reversing as agriculture gains priority in the region.
Lexington, Ky. The Burley Tobacco Growers' Cooperative Association won suits filed last week by E. C. Fain, A. L. Butler, and Andrew Locklin of Fayette county, plus two Scott county growers, John Suilee and C. T. Jenkins. Fain disputed ownership, saying the land was deeded to his wife before their marriage, yet he signed the Burley contract in 1921 and later delivered tobacco under it.
The Kingport Business Men's Club will meet at the Community Y this evening for the annual election of officers. Dr W H Reed will call the meeting to order at eight. A nominating committee will present a slate. entertainment and orchestra music are planned for the event.
President Coolidge Secretary Denby and other officials praise the Shenandoah crew after a deadly storm. Secretary Denby’s message to Lakehurst commends Lieutenant Commander Pierce and the officers and men for gallantry. William Creasy of Fort Thomas Kentucky testified in his own defense in the Mineola murder trial. He is charged with killing Edith Lavoy a Freeport schoolteacher in June 1922. Creasy denies shooting her claiming she died by a self inflicted wound or accidental shooting.
Austin Texas acting Governor Davidson refused permission to transport Mexican federal troops across Texas citing potential trouble with Mexican border residents. The telegram to Secretary Hughes notes safety concerns and denial of the crossing.
