Washington January 17 Senator Smith said President-elect Roosevelt told him New York conf ers that he wanted the domestic allotment relief bill confined to wheat and cotton. He would approve modifications to cover cotton if the cotton growers agree. Smith outlined a plan using regional agricultural credit corporations to lend funds for food crops and buy off surplus cotton, reducing the present glut and lifting future prices. The agriculture committee moved to study and possibly narrow the bill, with broad support seen among Democrats and some Republicans. Accused Slayer Dies of Poison in London
Samuel James Furnace in custody for the murder of Walter Spatchett died in St Pancras hospital from self administered poison. The case, dubbed a near perfect murder, followed a burned body later identified as Spatchett and a long Scotland Yard hunt.
