Flint police report Adolph Hotelling, jailed for slaying 5 year old Dorothy Schneider, said thoughts of the Hickman case drove him to crime. He confessed that sleepless nights pondering the Hickman details led to the kidnapping and murder on a deserted road, with threats to kill if the girl warned her mother. The full confession text was not available as officers left town with the records.

Washington January 17 The Senate finance committee voted to sidetrack the 290000000 tax reduction bill until after March 15. Senator Simmons of North Carolina urged immediate floor action but was defeated 11 to 9 as Republicans pledged to delay. Smoot said the measure would wait until after tax returns due date. Simmons vowed further action.
