New York January 13 a call for a major international conference of commercial and financial leaders to address postwar chaos. The appeal massed signatures from business and political figures across Europe and the United States urges governments to curb inflation and balance budgets, while urging saving and enterprise. Delegates from Germany and Austria may be invited.
Eugene Meyer Jr of the War Finance Corporation told a New York audience that Europe needs help but the United States has already extended vast credits. He argued Europe misreads America as unlimited and urged borrowers to present sound proposals.
Little Katherine Cook six, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Cook of Lovedale, fatally burned when her dress caught fire from a stove after stepping on an ash receiver iron board. Taken to Community Hospital, she died three hours later. The family had recently moved to the city.
Kalamazoo Michigan January 15. Walter Tabor brother of Maude Tabor Virgo says in a signed statement that his mother Mrs Sarah Tabor 80 chloroformed Maude Virgo and moved her body to the Lawton cellar where it was hidden under lumber. Mrs Tabor remains in custody on murder charges. Joseph Virgo faces manslaughter charges.
In Atlanta on January 16 a Prohibition Jubilee parade was led by Ku Klux Klansmen. Scores of civic and church organizations celebrated national bone-dryness in the city with the event.
The House approved the largest postoffice appropriation to date, totaling 460.98 million dollars for 1921. The bill, boosted by 75.74 million in salary increases, eliminates aeroplane mail continuation and extensions, while maintaining air service purchase funds and routes.
Paris report says the Supreme Council prepared a note to the Dutch government seeking the extradition of former German emperor William II. The note cites Versailles Article 227 and invites Holland to join allied powers in delivering the act. A special five judge tribunal from the United States Great Britain France Italy and Japan would try him with guarantees for defence.
Architect Clinton Mackenzie explains the Kingsport White City project built as 67 small homes based on local preferences. He says plans followed experience and studied popular existing houses, with door and window placements adjusted to suggest more space and refined trim.
New York, Jan. 15. Senator Miles Poindexter spoke before the Republican county committee and proposed a platform to be emblazoned on banners. It calls for an American basis of government, restoration of full trade relations, removal of European politics from U.S. affairs, orderly government and obligations in Mexico, and federal labor protections replacing violence in industrial disputes.
Washington reports two American Marines wounded in a clash with about 300 armed bandits trying to seize Port au Prince Haiti. One Marine is cited as seriously injured. Secretary Daniels was officially advised. Over half of the bandits were killed wounded or captured. Private L Coombs and Private F M McLaughlin are the injured servicemen.
San Antonio report from January 14 describes Senate sub committee testimony by T. M. McBee James J Britt and Geo E Blalock recounting cruelty murders and property devastation along the Mexican border. Britt cites autopsy care for Roney and Boles and alleges Mexican claims used tequila to mask deaths.

Recorder J. A. Bradley reports only ten percent of Kingsport taxpayers face the two percent monthly delinquency penalty after the final day of payment heavy with nearly $6,000 collected. Prosperity and city welfare concern influence prompt payments.
Secretary of the Treasury Glass appealed to banks to keep acting as agents for sale of war savings securities. The move, made public by the American Bankers Association, aims to stimulate savings and strengthen the secondary market for Liberty and Victory loan bonds and Treasury certificates. Banks and trust companies can aid by promoting government bonds and providing purchase and sale facilities under proper conditions.
Mrs. Jeannette Clifford reports December activity of the Home Auxiliary Service of the Welfare Federation of Kingsport including 200 visits to the sick 46 families aided with food clothing and fuel and Christmas gifts for 100 children. Treasurer Mrs. Kelley notes 110.33 spent this month with a 975.06 balance. List shows pledges paid by S P Platt T V Fairburn F M Kelley J F Draper J W Dobyns E E Wilson and Frank Wright.
Paris January 16 Premier Clemenceau, who yesterday announced he would seek election as president of the French republic before the plenary caucus, announced this morning his withdrawal as a candidate.
Chattanooga January 16 United Press report says a crowded street car jumped the track on Missionary Ridge. Six people were seriously injured and taken to hospital, with forty others escaping unharmed in a miraculous save.
Reginald de Koven, American opera composer and conductor, died in Chicago at age 59 from apoplexy. He founded the Washington Symphony Orchestra and was a prominent figure in American music.
Kingsport Inn will expand with two wings adding a larger kitchen dining room and 44 bedrooms. Designer Clinton Mackenzie of New York announced the project after meeting with A I Brady. Existing dining room becomes a lounge and private banquet room while a new lounge and waiting area accompany the north wing.
The Brotherhood Bible Class will host an entertainment for church ladies tonight at the church building. Allen Dryden leads the program and promises a unique surprise, but will not disclose details.
Members of the First Baptist Church Baraca Class will hold their first meeting next Sunday morning. Dr L L Highsmith was chosen as teacher for the class of men seventeen and older. Officers include J S Wilson president J T Roller vice president and L D Mann secretary and treasurer.
The Square Drug Store has been sold to E. B. Cox of Kingsport and J. A. Vernon of Dante Virginia. The sale was announced by former owners T. C. Warrick Bernie Hall and Jay O’Donnell. The new owners plan to operate at the same Main Street location. Cox is a former local merchant and Vernon is an experienced druggist. The former owners have not announced future plans.
