Actress Nyree Dawn Porter star of The Forsyte Saga and The Protectors welcomed a daughter over the weekend. She called it her dearest wish come true and said she has no plans to marry. Porter, 38, widowed four years, disclosed the father is actor Robin Husted, 28.
Sir Charlie Chaplin, 85, in a wheelchair, sounds cheerful as he prepares for a royal command performance at Buckingham Palace where Queen Elizabeth II will knight him. The nickname Six Charlie circulates as he contemplates the honor and his upcoming ceremony.
In Boston prosecutor and defense opened arguments in the Kenneth C. Edelin manslaughter case over an abortion performed on Oct. 3, 1973. Prosecutors claim a 2Weto-24-week fetal male baby died by suffocation after removal. Edelin denies any child was killed, asserting no birth occurred. The trial features Dr Mildrew Jefferson as an expert and centers on terminology and medical evidence.
Tornadoes swept the Florida Panhandle and southern Georgia killing a week old girl in Panama City and injuring at least 17 others. The Carter family suffered a fatality in a mobile home as the storm tore roofs off houses and scattered debris. Five touchdowns across Jackson County caused more injuries and extensive property damage. Smaller twisters hit about a dozen Georgia towns with additional injuries and structural ruin.

A 12 year old boy, Joseph Shullenbarger, playing dead in a dark street, was run over by a car driven by Sharon Brown of Phoenix. Witnesses included his brothers Robert and Steve and cousin Mickey Halzer. Brown was not cited as the incident occurred while the child was in the roadway.
