Alan M. Gump Named Chairman of Cancer Drive
Alan M Gump of Johnson City is named District 18 chairman of the 1981 American Cancer Society Crusade to be conducted in April. District 18 includes Carter Greene Johnson Sullivan Unicoi and Washington counties with county chairs to be named. State Aid Sought To Halt Rabies In Virginia County
In Dickenson County Virginia the board of supervisors requested state health department help to reduce wild animal populations to prevent a rabies outbreak. Dr James M Suter regional health director reported several rabid animals including foxes cows horses a mule a pony and two cats have been killed locally. Five residents exposed to rabid animals are under treatment as plans proceed to deploy professional trappers pending state and federal clearance. Nearby Hawkins County announces Fred A Berry named director of the 1961 March of Dimes drive as it runs through January.

Clinchport Man Shot In Home Incident Tells Details
William Falin, 22, listed in good condition at Holston Valley Hospital with a chest gunshot wound after a confrontation at Samuel Pierson, 75, Clinchport home. Pierson treated for forehead cuts and bruises. Deputies say Falin and brother James entered Pierson home drunk and were shot after Pierson produced a 122 caliber pistol. The Falins face felonious assault charges.

Two Injured In Rogersville Auto Crash
Two people were injured in a late night Rogersville auto crash. Lillie Byrd, 43, of Rt. J. Rogersville, suffered multiple injuries and was admitted to Holston Valley Community Hospital. Kester Byrd, 44, of the same address, sustained knee and chest injuries, treated and released. Hospital authorities reported Lillie Byrd’s condition.
