Farm Product Prices Decrease In Tennessee
Tennessee farm price index fell seven points in mid December from the prior year as declines in wheat rye cotton cottonseed milk cows eggs and lespedeza seed weighed on the state figure. Some items rose including corn soybeans tobacco wool and all chickens. Compared with November prices were higher for soybeans apples sweet potatoes hogs calves eggs lespedeza seed hay manufacturing milk and all grains except rye. Nationally the index stood at 204 percent of 1910-14 averages with increases in potatoes hogs and corn offset by declines in wholesale milk cake and cotton. The December 15 parity index and farm price levels remained unchanged with parity ratio at Ta, down one percent from December 1963.

Shivell Cows High Producers in Kingsport Herd
Three registered Guernsey cows in P. J. Shivell’s Kingsport herd recently set high DHIR production records as reported by the American Guernsey Cattle Club. The 4-year-olds yielded about 479 pounds of milk and 636 pounds of butterfat total. 2-year-old Beauty produced 610 pounds of milk and 12.94 pounds of butterfat. Production for the 1963-79 period is used to calculate base quotas and adjustments by the Secretary of Agriculture, considering three-year and four-year averages and special factors.
