Tennessee Lawmakers Tap Five for Finance Committee
Two Sullivan County lawmakers David Torbett and Harry Senter were named to the Finance Ways and Means Committee in the 1981 Tennessee Legislature. Torbett, a freshman, drew a rare appointment while Senter, a veteran, was named co chair of the House Judiciary Committee and to several other panels. Furlow, Rogersville’s W A S Furlow, joined as four committees. Rep Hugh Moses of Rogersville earned five committees including a co chairmanship.

Space Craft Given Highest Priority For Moon Pictures
LOS ANGELES NASA says Surveyor spacecraft has top priority to photograph the moon and pave the way for future manned missions. Dr Ada Silverstein, Lewis Research Center director, called the unmanned moon mission urgent and slated for early 1965. The project now carries the DX priority, the highest in U S aerospace programs.

Fire Kills Four at Shared Virginia House
A rural Providence Forge Virginia house shared by three families burned Thursday killing four children aged from two weeks to 13 months. Two survivors suffered burns. Fire Chief George Mounteasile said a defective chimney likely started the blaze as two women attempted rescues but were driven back by heat and smoke.
