Dr. John K. Lattimer, a Columbia University physician, informs reporters that X rays and photos from Kennedy's autopsy prove Oswald fired the fatal shots alone. Surgeon General Urges Drug Firms Cut Smoking Hazards

Virginia blue law eyed after Waynesboro stance

Virginia state Senator H D Dawburn urged a study of the blue law to determine enforceability and potential repeal if localities do not enforce it. Waynesboro Police Chief C H Benson announced plans to ignore the law and said enforcement would wait until the statute is changed to permit it.

Rain Up Floods Down in Tennessee Valley Weather Summary

Rainfall in the Tennessee Valley last year averaged 53.7 inches, six inches above 1970, with no major flood-control operations needed on the Tennessee River. Mild temps and higher rainfall reduced hydroelectric demand, keeping lake levels high May through August. In Beersheba Springs, two bandits robbed Richard Hill of 23000, fleeing into woods after Hill was attacked. In Knoxville, two men died after a shooting over a woman at a residence. In Memphis, a 16-year-old youth died during a weekend burglary attempt at a marine supply store. another 16-year-old suspect was later arrested.

Massacre of Deputies Sparks Georgia Manhunt Across Counties

Two Forsyth County deputies were shot dead in a patrol car early today near Cumming Georgia. A suspect fled the scene, leading to a large manhunt with more than 100 officers from Fulton Cobb and DeKalb counties the Atlanta police and state patrols. The chase ended after the suspect wrecked a car on I 265 and fled on foot as authorities searched wooded areas. Deputy James Cantrell and special deputy Larry Mulkey were described as father and son? by officials. Cantrell had stopped a car Saturday night and learned it was tied to a burglary. Both victims were found with Cantrell handcuffed behind his back.

Weekend disasters raise Tennessee death toll to fourteen

United Press International reports at least 14 people died in Tennessee over the weekend from four plane crashes four train related deaths four traffic incidents and two house fires. Victims include Lenwood Stinson in Memphis, the Dennis couple of Shirley Illinois, the Andersons of Normal Illinois, and multiple autos and train related fatalities across McMinnville Knoxville and Soddy Daisy. The count spans Friday evening to Sunday midnight.

Kenneth Patchen Dies Pioneer Poet at 60

Kenneth Patchen, famed as a antiwar poet who embraced jazz poetry, died at 60 in Palo Alto after a heart attack. Widowed by Miriam Patchen, he had been celebrated as a major American poet and active in 1950s jazz-infused readings. He published works from 1941 to 1957 and received a $10,000 lifetime achievement prize in 1967. Injuries Kill Trucker After Amputation At Scene

Billy Eugene Godwin a 33 year old truck driver from Windsor North Carolina died Sunday at 8 25 am in the intensive care unit of Norfolk General Hospital five days after a crash in which he watched his own leg be amputated to free him from wreckage His death came after he lost his other leg and one arm in the collision and had been listed in critical condition since admission last Tuesday.
