Knoxville shifts methadone maintenance from St Marys Hospital to near the University of Tennessee to reach youths in the Cumberland Avenue area. UPI reports indicate the center will coordinate with other programs as it opens this move.
Holiday Inns Inc and Braniff International will build four 125 room Holiday Inns in Peru in a joint venture with Enturperu the Peruvian government tourism corporation. The project costs about 7.5 million dollars with completion targeted for spring 1973 and Braniff and Holiday Inns each holding 10 percent equity while Enturperu owns the remainder.
The FTC asks the FCC to broaden rules on corrective television ads. It proposes allowing public service or other groups to rebut corporate environmental health and nutrition claims with counter ads. FTC envisions a five minute block weekly. urges broadcasters to sell time to any payer, not just one side.
President Nixon officially declares his candidacy for reelection in a letter to New Hampshire supporters, placing his name on the ballot in six other primaries. He faces rivals from both parties in New Hampshire, including Rep. Paul McCloskey and Rep. John Ashbrook, as Muskie McGovern Hartke Yorty and McCarthy plot primary moves amid Florida activity.
In the Central Highlands an American helicopter accidentally opened fire on South Vietnamese troops, killing one and wounding five. A second U.S. helicopter was shot down, injuring its three crewmen. South Vietnamese forces moved toward eastern Cambodia as B52 raids and allied jets pounded North Vietnamese positions. General Ngo Dzau said the operation aimed to push six miles into Cambodia, with the Vo Nguyen Giap led forces targeted to thwart a possible Tet offensive.
Nashville UPI Central State Hospital Superintendent Dr William H. Tragle said Thursday that more than 3 percent of the hospital’s patients would be better off in nursing homes. He argued that if nursing homes were available these individuals could live in their home towns near friends and relatives under more appropriate conditions, and that such an arrangement would be a lot cheaper.

Caliph Poe recounts a violent burglary at his Poe's snail grocery, where burglars killed his watchdog Joe with a meat cleaver after a fight. The dog suffered four broken legs and was chopped to pieces. Loot included meat groceries and cigarettes worth about 900 dollars. This marked the store's third break-in in under a month.
