County urged to borrow funds for school building program

Court Okehs Resolution For School Blountville

Sullivan county court defeated a plan to build a lower end school but approved an enabling act to raise 25000 for the project with funds to the county and excluding Bristol and Kingsport. The court also rejected a new high school building plan and reported overdrafts totaling 198573.31 across six funds, plus partial cash balances and budget cautions. A road grant authorized one mile of road and an underpass project with Clinchfield Railroad to ease east side access. Poor farm records show 33 inmates and $588.65 quarter expense, while the highway department reports 43065.34 receipts and 34549.86 disbursements with 8515.48 cash balance.

Five Injured Over Weekend In Kingsport Area

Weekend accidents in the Kingsport area sent five people to Community Hospital with injuries. Serious conditions described for two patients included Mary L. Hoosier, 18, who suffered a scalp laceration and left shoulder fracture after reportedly toppling from a car near the Civic Auditorium. Amanda V. Groves, 70, of Benham, Va., was treated for a fractured right hip from a porch fall and remained in fair condition. A 12-year-old boy, Robert Brown, was treated for a severely damaged finger and scalp lacerations after being found in a parkway near Kingsport Press. he could not recall the incident. Prennie Wexler suffered facial injuries from timber striking him after a tractor incident. J. B. Fletcher, 33, of Gate City, required care for a scalp wound after a motor vehicle crash on Gate City highway.
