New York governor Samuel M. Smith signaled he would not override court decisions ordering Ruth Snyder and Henry Judd Gray to die in the electric chair next week. A fresh Supreme Court move sought a 30 day delay for psychiatric examination while insurance suits loom over Mrs Snyder.
H. C. Severance of New York was badly hurt when his car struck a telegraph post in Danville Virginia. He said he fell asleep at the wheel while driving home. A passenger, Charles Degazon, aged 2, suffered abrasions. The auto, valued at 16000 dollars, was wrecked beyond repair, according to local mechanics.
Fifteen thousand bluejackets aboard the U S scouting fleet head to Hampton Roads preparatory to leaving Saturday for Guantamo Bay for winter maneuvers. Floyd Hewitt a 17 year old of Conneaut Ohio calmly faced execution for the murder of Mrs. Fred Brown and her five year old son in their home. Hewitt would be Ohio's youngest electrocution victim. The state board of clemency refused commutation after a hearing and the governor announced the decision. Hewitt confessed to the killings and his attorneys and relatives argued he was feeble minded. The case follows a 1890 Cleveland youth hanged at the same age.
Advices from St Moritz report King Albert of Belgium injured in a bobsled crash. A passenger grabbed him to prevent a overturn. Albert suffered an elbow abrasion. Lord Northesk, brakeman, was thrown and injured his back. Queen Elizabeth planned to join but King Albert stayed behind.
The News Leader reports the first hydrophobia death in years in Richmond. Bernice Alvis, 28, Goochland County farmer, died at a local hospital after a dog bite. He told doctors he played with a strange dog before illness. he remained conscious until three days before death.
