Gate City Virginia Deputy Sheriff B J Pendleton said Gerald Bishop of Clinchport has admitted forcing his first cousin a 21 year old Clinchport woman into his car driving a short distance from her home and assaulting her Bishop said to have raped his cousin at gunpoint from Bedford County jail Monday night He was returned in custody here by the sheriff after being intoxicated at the time of the alleged attack

Jaxe B. Sells, 28, Golden Gloves boxer, was released on 35000 bond after arraignment in Sessions Court on felonious assault charges in the Monday night shooting of Ruth Harrell. Harrell, mother of five, remained in good condition at Holston Valley Hospital after being shot once above the right breast with a .38 slug. Police said Sells slashed his neck in jail, then later claimed the gun jammed and urged Harrell to end her life. Harrell said they had dated for six to eight weeks.
