Three Bodies Found in Ruins of Historic Westkorn Hotel
Ossing New York January 5 two men and a woman were recovered from the ruins of the Westkorn Hotel after a fire believed incendiary. Unofficial identifications include Albert Albrech a waiter and Mr and Mrs Albert McKenna of Syracuse. Hotel owner Charles Tleisch said the register was lost and others escaped. Police were told by a witness who saw a man fleeing the area before the alarm. The fire marks the fifth in six months at the building.

Rescue of Byrd Woman From Bank Street Fire
Firemen used a ladder to rescue Mrs. G. G. Byrd from a burning Bank Street building after the stairway was blocked by flames. Mr Byrd had already reached the ground with their seven year old daughter Margaret. The blaze was brought under control and damage was small.

Washington January 5 Charges of corruption and extortion while a North Carolina solicitor and wrongful use of his office were filed with a Senate judiciary sub committee against Judge Johnson J. Hayes of Greensboro. Hayes is serving under a recess appointment as federal judge in the Middle District of North Carolina. A protest against confirmation was filed by D T Vance. The sub committee is chaired by Senator Overman with Senator Robinson attending. illness kept Senator Goff away. Hayes previously served as solicitor from 1914 to 1926 and was a law partner of John B R Jones in Hayes and Jones.

Man jailed after burning home and five children
In Little Rock Arkansas W G Dendy a railroad shop worker was jailed on arson suspicions as a coroner s jury probed the deaths of five Dendy children whose charred bodies were found in the ruins of the farm home. Dendy described poverty and misfortune culminating in a fatal blaze with his family inside. The coroner reported bodies on a bed with another bed in the room and possible crushed heads from falling timbers. Dendy said Ophelia 14 was like a mother to the others and that he will bury them together. Two other children were away in Eldorado at the time. The fire adds to Arkansas fire fatalities for January with another family killed in the Farlin home tragedy the same day.
