Richard Hawkins a six year old first grader from Dwina School Wise County Virginia was struck by a coal truck on a private road near State Route 7 while walking to a Christmas program with classmates and a teacher. The truck driver Boyt Tipton Root of Plumtree NM was arrested later in St Paul and charged with manslaughter driving while drunk and leaving the scene. The program was canceled and the child died en route to Corban Hospital. Authorities Sgt Ira Rathin and I O Alien led the investigation. He was the son of Ira Hawkins of Dying and had six siblings.
