M S Bennett 17 year old son of Bruce Bennett died at his Piney Flats home yesterday afternoon. Funeral services were held at Union church with Rev Hashbarger of Johnson City officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pall bearers were school mates. He had been ill for several months. Survived by father and stepmother, two sisters Mrs Chas Crockett of Bristol and Mrs Anna Bennett of Erwin, and one brother.

Genna Italy Dec 21 An other romance of the high seas was told today when the Italian steam ship Roma arrived with 26 survivors from the 1700 ton Guarneri carrying 3000 tons of marble to Rio de Janeiro. A sinking radio call was answered by the Roma 150 miles away. Captain Desposito urged the Guarneri to stand by as fog closed in. Thirteen volunteers manned Lifeboat No 18 and ventured into the storm.

Canton dec 21 ousted Canton police chief A P Lengel, defense witness in Patrick McDermott trial for Don R Melletts murder, denied claims he conferred with co defendant Ben Rudner the night of the killing.
