Russian Offensive Drives Deep into German Lines

The Soviet information bureau reports a threefold winter offensive striking from northwest and Voronezh fronts. Scott County Drivers Affected by OPA Gas Coupon Ban

Gate City report states Scott County motorists are in the group with suspended gasoline coupons. Telegram from Roanoke confirms A B or C coupons are halted for non-emergency use, with filling stations allowed to deny coupons to non essentials. An emergency top action directs gasoline sales to private cars only in regular emergencies.

Woman Injured in Auto Collision in Parked Car

Mrs. M. J. Nolan of Tilcrest was admitted to Halston Valley Community hospital after a car collision at Watauga and Piedmont streets left her with lacerations to the head face and left leg. A vehicle registered to Willie B. Anderson denied driving the car. Anderson was later arrested on a public intoxication charge after the crash. Three other people were treated at the hospital for injuries including a boy with a fractured right arm and a baby with burns from an open fireplace hot ash.

Allied forces capture Cape Endaidere and sink Japanese cruiser

Allied communique reports ground troops advancing east of Buna and near Cape Endaidere as remnants of the Japanese defense reduced. Rations Cut and Gas Sales Resume in East

Price Administrator Leon Henderson announced gasoline sales would resume nationwide in the east at 12:01 a.m. Monday with A, B and C coupons good for three gallons. He noted a bootlegging problem and suspended 180 dealers. Byrnes ordered reports on policy adequacy, while relief measures let some households buy fuel with coupons later. The plan replaces the prior three and four gallon limits and aims to curb runs amid shortages. enforcement will tighten and inspectors will be redirected.

Field Executive To Visit Kingsport On ODC Problems
