Banks accused of windfall from Christmas clubs

Rep. Benjamin Rosenthal charged banks profit from Christmas clubs that pay no interest. He cited about 4 billion dollars in noninterest accounts as of June and estimated missed interest around 144 million yearly. Rosenthal pressed for a truth in lending review and clearer disclosures to protect savers, especially the elderly and children.
