Children’s choirs to present service of Christmas carols

Hal Boyle reports 78 voices from First Presbyterian Church and Waverly Road Presbyterian Church will present a Sunday evening service of Christmas carols at 7:30 pm under music director Philip T. Blackwood. Pastors Sommers and Schottnus will conduct, with organist Mrs. Hazel Huntoon. After the service, choirs and congregation join in a carol sing on the Church Circle.

Emory College and Reedy Creek Church present Christmas programs with Vickie Woodard as soprano soloist. Emory Carol Service at 8 p.m. Sunday and College Christmas Concert Monday at 2 p.m. featuring choirs, soloists, and a large musical ensemble from Emory and Henry College and local groups.

Kentucky Burley Averages Set Near Sixty Dollars

Kentucky burley markets closed with a 689.67 per hundred price, down 48 cents from the day before. The State Department of Agriculture reported Brewers received 8,526,476.08 for 14,289,800 pounds moved at 26 auction centers. The belt in eight states showed steadiness to sharp drops, with Wednesday’s average at 60.12, second highest daily mark, and belt gross sales at 22.1 million pounds averaging 59.26.

Lutheran Men’s Organization Installed at Holy Trinity Church

Officers of the Brotherhood of the Lutheran Men’s Organization were installed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday by Rev. Don ald R. Fauble. Ralph DeBusk is president, Burt Olsen vice president, Ronald Jennings treasurer, and James K. Rasser secretary for 1856. They replace outgoing president William Y. Harkins and vice president T. C. Fritz, with treasurer and secretary continuing for a second term.

Christmas Carol Service Sunday At First Baptist

The third annual Christmas carol service at First Baptist Church will be on Sunday at 7130 Pen. Five choirs will combine under Wilbert H. Kerr for scripture and carols. Mrs L P Gregory will accompany on organ, with pianists Miss Josephine Bandidge and Mrs Jack Lewis. Narrator is Mrs Anwell W Abbott. Enrollment tops 185 across nine years and up. Choir selections include Lost in the Night, What of the Night Watchman, Fanfare for Christmas Day, Jesus Jesus Rest Your Head, Hasten Swiftly Hasten Softly, On This Good Christmas Morn, Winds Through the Olive Trees, The Babe in the Manger, O Holy Night, and Go Tell It On the Mountain.

Akers Quartet to Lead Third Sunday Singing at Fordtown Church

Fordtown Community Church hosts a Sunday program with the Akers Quartet featured in the Third Sunday Singing. James Darnell of Berea Ky pianist will play. A Christmas cantata will be presented at Cedar View Presbyterian Church Wednesday at 8 p m directed by Mrs M D Rice. The program is open to the public.
