Young Prophetstown Boy Wins Grand Champion Steer in Chicago

Brad Lindskog, 11, of Prophetstown Ti, captures top prize at the International Live Stock Show in Chicago with Conoco the grand champion steer. The steer sold for 15180 dollars at 512 a pound to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, making Brad the youngest exhibitor to win the title in the show’s 70 year history.

11 Year Old Tells How He Raised Champion Steer

Brad Lindskog of Prophetstown Illinois aged 11 won the grand championship with a 1,263 pound Chatelais Angus steer named Conoco at the 70th International Live Stock Exposition. He raised the crossbred champion with proper care and feeding after buying the calf for 350 dollars with proceeds from hog sales.

Prices Hit 13 Year High For Tennessee Farmers

The Tennessee Crop Reporting Service notes the November 1 prices index at 118 percent of the 1957-59 base, a peak since September 1958. Burley tobacco timing and boll production affected East Tennessee cash crops as hogs calves and livestock driven gains supported the livestock index to 135 percent. All crops held at 97 percent, soybeans averaged lower, cotton and corn slipped, while the nationwide index rose to 245 percent for the 1910-14 average. The prices paid index reached a new high, up 5 percent from last year.

Calves Lead Tennessee Meat Show Grand Champion Hereford

In Tennessee from October, commercial fed meat production totaled 70.3 million pounds, down 9 percent from last year but up from September. Calves rose 20 percent year over year, while cattle slaughter, hogs, and sheep declined. A Hereford steer owned by 4-Her Bandy Nickell won grand champion at the 40th Tennessee Finished Cattle Show in Nashville, with Norma Turner’s 4-H steer Reserve champion.

Kenneth King wins Weber City 4-H Tobacco Show

Kenneth King, 13, won first place for best prepared crop at the Weber City 4-H Tobacco Show and Sale on Saturday November 24, earning a DM gauge shotgun and averaging over 73 dollars per hundred pounds for his tobacco. Central Heights, Weavers, Holston Lth and Holston th grade 4 Clubs were the top four teams.
