Engineer killed as trains collide near Lake Cormorant
In Mississippi a southbound Yazoo and Mississippi Valley freight rammed a northbound freight last night. The senior engineer S. Roach, 70, of Whitehaven, Tenn., died after leaping to try to avert the crash. Memphis fireman W. J. Kinney was shocked and bruised. L. P. Lynch, the other engineer, was unhurt. Chief clerk Fred Payne said investigation would determine the cause. Kinney, from a Memphis hospital, recalled the moment of impact near a siding at Lake Cormorant, about 20 miles south of Memphis.

Bookkeeper Lost In Mine Is Rescued After Three Days
Lavrpane Lee a 28 year old bookkeeper went missing Sunday afternoon in the Briar Hill and adjacent Baucoupt mine workings near Pinckeyville Michigan. He was found today at the bottom of an air shaft, exhausted but alive, after wandering in darkness through an underground labyrinth spanning about eight square miles. State Mine Inspector Leonard Forester said he was fatigued and placed to bed at home. He had been crawling away from the Briar Hill shaft toward the other shaft, eluding searchers by staying just out of hearing distance.
