Tennesseans Shine at National 4-H Congress in Chicago
Tennessee delegates dominated the 44th National 4-H Congress with multiple scholarship wins and top honors. Betsy Betlis of Sullivan County earned a $500 award in the national dress revue, while James Ben Stockton of Jamestown received a $1,600 forestry scholarship. Others including Linda Johnson Nolensville and Connie Dunavant Pulaski won $500 scholarships in dairy, clothing, and leadership programs. The event, led by Vice President Humphrey, recognized 4-H citizenship, achievement, and leadership among 2,200 delegates.

4 H Chatter Highlights Active Officers and Beef Plans
Mrs. Ed Smith reports Sullivan County 4 H officers are active and seek her advice. Milk and cookies will be served at the December meeting. Several locals praised the January February electric workshop attendees who contributed time. 48 participants yielded letters of thanks from Louise Miller, Nancy Pecktol, Mac Lynn Tilley, Tommy Carson, Dennie Hood, and Larry Conkin. Three state 4 H winners were named, including David Dean, national tractor winner who received a $500 college scholarship. A Beef Project meeting is planned for December 21 in Blountville with John Williams of UT. a steer project visit is set for December 22.

Allandale Farm Kingsport and Aberan Herd of Edgehill Shadewell Va share ownership of Aberan Royal Rosebud 3 which won junior championship and then top female at the International Livestock Show in Chicago. Blackbird Lady PS 172 shown by Penn State and Meadow Lane Farm NY earned reserve junior and reserve grand, while Moles Hill Farm Conn showed the senior and grand champion Angus bull, with Ermitre of Allandale bred by Allandale and exhibited by Ankony Farm Rhinebeck NY and Garrett Wynn Angus Ranch Longmont Calo.

November bog prices reach new high for period
Tennessee farmers received an average of 22 per hundred pounds, 40 cents above October and higher than November last year. This marks only the third time since 1904 records began that November bog prices have been this high, with averages of 24 in 1947 and 23.40 in 1946.
