Police Hold Mother Of Fire Victim

Mrs Luerother Ford the mother of an eight year old boy who died in a fire was questioned as investigators sought the autopsy results. District Attorney Charles C Toran said two lengths of chain were found in the room and the door was locked when the fire started. The brother said they tried to reach him but the door was locked and the boy was found burning.

Government Buying Rice For Viet Nam

The government contracts rice in southern states mainly Louisiana to keep warehoused Viet Nam stocks safe. Shipments this year have restored stocks to a safe level with over 300000 tons of the staple base of the Vietnamese diet. An additional 200000 tons, all from the United States, is slated to be sent before July 1. About 40000 tons will be bought in the next two weeks in the southern states.

Hurricane Faith Turns Toward Virgin Islands

Hurricane Faith neared the Virgin Islands with 90 mph winds as warnings spread across Puerto Rico and the Leeward Islands. Officials evacuated low areas as Coast Guard rescued two sailors and shelters opened in San Juan and the Virgin Islands. Weather centers tracked Faith’s west-northwest path, with gusts extending up to 50 miles north of the storm core and gale warnings for surrounding areas.
