4 H Members Plan Auction Of Pullets
One hundred twenty high quality pullets, most already laying, will be auctioned Thursday by 411 Clan boys and girls, Northern Lee, assistant Sullivan County agent, announces. Ten youths supplied 100 baby chicks in March to raise as a 4 H project, to return 12 mature pullets as payment. The pullets, taken to Beara Garde Shop on Bristol Street in Bristol, will be auctioned before 9 a.m. with cash prizes for best exhibitor. Poultry specialists from the University of Vermont will judge the show at 9 a.m.

NEW YORK The Socialist Workers party nominated Farrell Dobbs for president and Myra Tanner Wells for vice president. Dobbs, a former truck driver, and Wells, a longtime factory worker, headed the party's ticket in 1932. They appeared on ballots in 12 states in 1952 and received 10,206 votes. Thirty delegates from 12 states rejected Dobbs and Wells at the party’s convention Sunday night. Benson Sets 20 Million Acres To Rest In Soil Bank Program
Washington Ezra Taft Benson announced details of the Soil Bank conservation program with a $450 million yearly level to retire 20 million acres of cropland into grass trees or water storage. Farmers may sign long term contracts to be eligible for payments this year. Contracts range from three to 10 years with tree planting extending to 18 years. Deadline for the 1957 conservation reserve program is March 33 1957. Farmers must plant at least five acres in the reserve or ten acres if trees are planted. Two payment types: cost sharing up to 30 percent and annual payments based on conservation practice, with penalties for contract violations. A farm soil bank base will be set by county committees. Land cannot be cropped or grazed while under contract except emergency conditions. Total annual payments capped at $35,000 per producer.
