Mrs Wayne B Wheeler 51 wife of the anti saloon league leader was badly burned in an oil stove explosion at the Little Point Sable cottage near Shelby Mich Her father 82 died of shock and her husband smothered the flames with a blanket While she remained in a hospital physicians reported little hope for recovery The incident also sent Mrs Candy 81 and her husband William Candy 81 of Columbus Ohio into shock.

Eugene Booze and five other Negroes were cleared of murder charges in Clarksdale Mississippi. The cases were dismissed by Justice of the Peace Dave Arnold after District Attorney John P. James Oliver Curwood author and conservationist died at his Oswasso home after a streptococcus infection. Two Detroit physicians airlifted to his house and a blood transfusion from his daughter failed to halt the illness. Survived by his wife and two daughters from his first marriage, plus a son and second wife, with another daughter convalescing in Albany.
