The Pickett County Soil Conservation District was named Tennessee's outstanding district in a national soil conservation contest covering May 1 1887 to April 30 1958. Jason P. Crouch of Byrdstown Route 2 earned individual recognition, and Crasler Storle of Byrdstown Route 2 was noted as outstanding farmer cooperator. Cocke County district placed second with W Gray O Neil of Newport Route 1 cited as outstanding farmer cooperator. The district will receive a bronze plaque. Crouch and Storle will join the annual meeting and receive an all expenses paid vacation to Wigwam Resort in Arizona.
