In Anniston Alabama Aug 11 officers pressed a hunt for a negro believed linked to a shooting that wounded three members of a white posse at the Bush home. State patrols aided local officers amid fears of lynching once the suspect is found as two posse members remained in serious condition.
A 56 year old grandmother from Fentress County arrives in Memphis with a bright red sound truck to campaign as Socialist candidate for Tennessee Governor. Mrs Stockton urges action against fascism and proposes government takeover of industries, citing TVA support and a Mayflower lineage. She faces Gordon Browning in November and speaks to about 20 Socialists.

Nashville August 11 Mon Headden announces resignation as state director of game and fish conservation effective September 1 He cites personal sacrifice and seeks to protect the department from political clash with governor candidate Browning Headden plans to return to farming in Lake County and will not recommend a successor. salary 3400 a year, appointed January 1933.
In Asheville on August 11 a murder case moves toward trial for Martin Moore, a six foot three prisoner accused of killing an 18 year old college girl at Batters Park Hotel. Sheriff Brown and investigators dispute the sexual assault claim and note Moore’s confession. prosecutor Nettles says Moore entered the room to rob, panicked and shot after the victim’s scream.
A head on crash on a curve near Dante Virginia killed Ford Robinette the northbound shifter conductor. Several crew members Gleve Reevy John Jane and George Morton were injured with varying severity and rushed to Clinchfield hospital while others jumped to safety. Blame was not fixed.
