Judge Expected To Study Knox School Dispute
In Knoxville AP dispatch Judge Robert J. Taylor prepared to study the Knox County school integration case after final arguments on a grade-a-year plan. The plan, proposed by the Knoxville School Board, aims to integrate one grade per year starting Aug. 31, and is challenged by 17 Negro students who say it moves too slowly. The Nashville-like plan had been studied since 1955 to reduce tension, with the 6th Circuit upholding a similar approach in Nashville. In Chattanooga a thunderstorm caused power outages and temperature drops from 93 to 76 degrees, knocking down 4,000-volt lines and causing minor damages citywide.
