A chartered Boeing 707 bound for Agadir with Moroccan migrant workers on board crashed into a mountainside in dense fog two minutes from landing. All 144 aboard died, with four British passengers, six Jordanian crew, and one Finnish stewardess among the dead. Officials called it the fourth worst aviation disaster.
Aviation officials said the pilot was new to Agadir airport and flew off axis into dense fog and a peak of the Atlas range near Imzizen. The crash killed residents who witnessed it as fire scorched about 10 acres and rescuers searched for the black box amid wreckage.
Racial violence flared at South Boston Carson Beach for the second weekend as about 300 white youths roamed the area armed with bats rocks and sticks. A car carrying a black man and a Puerto Rican family was struck by rocks and a hat was punched through a rear window. Leaflets claiming blacks would march on the beach were distributed by the South Boston Defense League, signed by a group calling itself a communist organization. The union renounced a Saturday deal and refused binding arbitration on two disputed items, violating a National Mediation Board directive. Airline officials blamed the pilots for widespread disruption and harm to passengers.

Guerrillas slipped from Lebanon into Israel and fought a six hour gun battle with Israeli troops near Adamit. One guerrilla and one Israeli soldier were killed and two Israeli troopers were wounded. Rabin touted diplomatic gains while Palestinian groups altered PLO involvement. Beiru t reports say the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine General Command suspended its PLO Executive Committee membership.
