Upsets topple Sullivan County magistrates in Thursday election

Five magistrates lost including long-time veteran Charlie Joe Long who was defeated in the Fifth District. Ex magistrate Paul Zimmerman and newcomer Joe Mike Akard won seats. incumbents C Lake Barnes and Aldridge Woods were reelected. Final tallies show Woods with 763 votes, Barnes 608, Akard 685, Long 565, and other totals listed for Livesay Young Bacon Blair and Benedict.

New Faces On County Court In Sullivan Sixth District

Robert H. Roller won one of two Sullivan County Sixth District seats with 531 votes, surpassing three rivals combined. Grant Greene, the incumbent, claimed the other seat with 465. Dr. John I. Dale was ousted with 347 votes. Other candidates included R. Earl Jones 321, James Moody Jr 330, Luther Sith 100, and Ralph Mellons 78. Roller works at Holston Army Ammunition Plant in organic and nitric acid departments and farms livestock. Greene has 12 years on the county court and chairs the County Home Commission for the Aged. he works at Tennessee Eastman. Dale is an Eastman chemist.

Sullivan County Court results reshape district balance

Long time incumbent J Powell Hawk lost by five votes in a tight Seventh District race. New magistrates include Carl Henry in the Fifth District and Ruth Montgomery in the 11th. Incumbents re elected include J D Hickam, Carl Phillips, H Grady Reed, Don Whited, James King, Cecil Durham, Charles Keener, and Chester Hall, with notable turnouts across districts and multiple candidates vying for seats.

Elected Constables Vary Across 22 Districts in Tuesday Vote

Voters across 22 civil districts chose 23 constables in a Tuesday election. Many winners ran unopposed while several districts saw write in or tied results. Districts 5 and 9 show multiple candidates, and write in Ford won in District 19.

Bristol area magistrates elected in yesterday's vote

In Bristol area elections 16 squires were chosen across Districts 1 2 3 4 8 and 17. Albert Morrell won District 1 unopposed with 203 votes. District 2 elected C Warren Fleenor with 247. opponents Burtum and Grubb had 130 and 118. District 3 seat went to Jessie Turner with 378. Thompson had 186. District 4 winners were Conley Gentry Sr 427 and J C Clark 324, with Roy Lan 312 and C R Whitaker Sr 278 also in the race. District 8 filled three seats by Wendell Gates Sr 815 Wassom Jr 803 and Clarence Carrier 695. other candidates were Carl Jenkins Jr 484 Eford Barnett 435 Robert Cox 294 and Charlie Bartley 280. District 17 led by Ralph Hart 1575 with JoAnn Torbett 1400. remaining seats went to Eugene Mahaffey 1387 Wilfred Gillenwater 1578 Bobby Icenhow 140 F S Taft 127 Carmack Carrie 1388 and Charles Hea 1082. H Van Nomtrand was eliminated with 971.
