In Tennessee the Seventh district renominated deceased former Congressman Lemuel P. Padgett of Columbia for a twelfth term. He defeated William C. Salmon of Columbia by about 1000 to 1500 votes in incomplete returns, carrying six of ten counties. Friends formed a quick committee to urge votes for Padgett despite his death to possibly trigger a new election and allow other candidates to enter.

Reported last night Hawkins County voters gave Democrats sweeping wins. John Barton was elected sheriff by about 100 votes, George Rogers county treasurer by 400, John Moneyhan county clerk by over 400, George Stout circuit court clerk by over 500, Simeon Klepper unopposed for register. In Washington County Tennessee winners included J Ss Pritchard sheriff, Jess Smith county court clerk, Eat Hunter register, Will Jones circuit court clerk, with Boyles and Weeks close for county trustee.
