Major Louis Wikowski and Ra vbair Kurula of the Olive Air Service launched from Le Bourget aiming to fly 3000 to 4000 miles to New York in a single engine plane with no radio. They ignored French weather advice and faced a strong northeasterly draft as they circled Paris before heading west. Pilot Courtney and crew forced down at sea

Captain Frank T. Courtney and three companions were forced to bail out of a burning plane over the Atlantic during an aborted New York flight from the Azores. They were later reported safe aboard the British liner Minnewaska, with a message to Mrs Courtney saying there was no real danger. The Cedric relayed the rescue details as the Minnewaska continued toward New Orleans.
