A coroner's jury probes last Friday's deaths at the Everglades Hotel in Miami and the Baron and Baroness Royce Garrett. The Baroness leaped to her death from the eighteenth floor while the Baron, using heavy twine, was found in a thicket north of the city after attempting to hang himself.

Seattle August 2 police weighed Tara Smith also known as Thomas Johnson and Kelly 33 a listed arch criminal or lunatic after he confessed to 14 murders and 100 robberies. He claimed crimes in San Francisco Hazleton Sioux City Wichita Peoria Mankato Minneapolis and Kansas City. Authorities checked his tale while some reports from Mankato and Hazleton rejected his claims. A city detective telegraphed Minneapolis to verify the slaying of Leonard Brudahl. Police meanwhile scrutinized the confession as officers assess credibility.
Lynchburg Virginia August 2 two men Haywood Shrouse 33 dairy employee and his cousin John Shrouse 18 mechanic were roasted alive when a plane flown by Edward H Brockenbrough crashed near the city. Brockenbrough escaped and attempted to rescue them but failed. The burning gas tank trapped the two men as bystanders and a mail carrier narrowly avoided the wreckage. Haywood Shrouse survived by his wife and three children. John Shrouse’s father witnessed the fatal ride.
An exhibition game between Kingsport Brick Plant and Hosiery Mills will be staged at League Park at 5:30 this afternoon. No league game is scheduled, and this will be the first chance for fans to see the sock makers in action. Also brief NY news on butter, eggs, and cheese prices.

Los Angeles August 2 the disappearance inquiry into Aimee Semple McPherson was discontinued by District Attorney Asa Keyes who said it would cost thousands to convict anyone and the new evidence from Carmel was too vague. McPherson urged a speedy substantiation of her kidnapping tale. Deputy D A Joe Ryan said Keyes ordered him to back off and he would comment after consulting Keyes. Ormiston, once tied to the case, had been traced to Carmel and Chicago, with his whereabouts still unclear.
Hammond Post Number 3 of the American Legion plans its annual outing and regular meeting at Camp Hammond tonight. Members are expected to attend in full force as preparations are underway to welcome the event and support activities scheduled for the evening.
Chicago wheat prices opened sharply lower with declines of one to two cents, while corn oats and provisions weakened. Corn led the losses with about one to three cents down, and oats and other grain markets followed suit in early trading today.

Washington reports that looting of a wine cellar in the Ravensworth mansion basement in Fairfax County Virginia is suspected as a motive for a fire that destroyed the historic house. Russell Wood 20, son of the dairy farm manager at Ravenwood, is held without bail. The mansion, a landmark akin to Mount Vernon and the Lee mansion, dates to about 140 years ago and has a history of ownership through Fitzhigh and the Lee family amid ongoing litigation between Dr George Bowling Lee and Mrs Robert B Lee.
Morristown lawyer T Coleman, a candidate for attorney general of the eleventh district, spent the day in Kingsport. He plans Sullivan County as his campaign headquarters in the days leading to Thursday’s election.
The piece reports a jail claim by suspect Steve Kasholk that he and Patrick McDermott were hired to kill Canton publisher Don R. Mellett.
