Reports from Addis Ababa say Italian forces near the Ethiopian capital after a high plateau advance. Emperor Haile Selassie returned, pledged order, while police and foreign legations prepared for possible invasion and evacuation.
Mrs Hazel Draper, wife of Eben S Draper of Hope, Mass, told her husband by cable she felt better after disembarking from the Cunard liner Georgic in London. She planned to return to New York on the ship’s next westward voyage as the ten day search for her earlier absence concludes.

Lipanto Arkansas April 30 44 An official probe opened as a mob killed 11 year old Feile eyes a negro accused of attempted attack on a white woman. He was abducted by 10 men and shot three times with one bullet through the heart. A second victim, 11 year old Shaw was killed near Colbert Georgia by about 40 men during an attack on white girls. Guards were called to Huntsville Alabama after a negro Walter Miller was arraigned on assault and murder charges.
Memphis April 30 officials at University of Tennessee stand firm that negroes will not be admitted as students. A white college graduate filed a chancery suit challenging denial of entry to the College of Pharmacy. The petition argues the charter prohibits exclusion by race. Chancellor Repich set May 1 for arguments. Redmond contends the denial violates rights and that public funds support the university. He cites that pharmacy was the only public program and seeks entry as a graduate from a black school with a science degree.

Doris Dudley an actress and Sidney Kingsley a playwright were reported reconnecting in a hospital room after a rifle shot wounded her in the chest. Centerville Missouri April 1. Veteran prosecutor Joseph L. Heel says he will take immediate steps against a man who confessed to giving false testimony against Huett in a manslaughter case. Huett, convicted and free on appeal, declined comment. Bowles, former Centerville justice, said he lied after the shooting of Ruel Hunter in a street dispute last August. The case remains under appeal as Bowles seeks forgiveness.
Nashville dispatch reports Lewis Butler, a 19 year old college student, installed as governor with proclamations and honorary appointments. McAlister absent. Butler plans dictation and liberation of patronage while promising broader freedoms and a formal address citing Whereas and Therefore resolutions.
