Final returns from the Burley quota referendum held Feb 2 through March 1 show growers approving marketing quotas for the 1968 1969 and 1970 burley crops. In Sullivan County 95.9 percent of 1973 voters supported the program, while the Burley Belt total was 204 in favor to 8 878 against out of 29 069 ballots cast.

A sheep shearing school at the Southwest Virginia Research Station Glade Spring Va runs today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with instructors Robert Welsh of Chia representing Sunbeam Corp and Chester Baker of the Virginia Department of Agriculture. Welsh was national junior champion in 1952 and national professional champion in 1963. Young men trained here often work as custom shearers earning 2000 to 4000 dollars each spring.
