Washington April 25 Senator Reed Republican of Pennsylvania derided the administration inflation proposal as unconstitutional and a dangerous power to grant an individual. He attacked the plan while urging compromise on gold and silver clauses and warned against the proposed currency move. Democratic leaders remained confident the legislation would pass with few changes despite Republican opposition and a split from Senator Tydings on the farm oil provisions. Senator Borah floated using new currency to pay off bank deposits, but the idea drew little support from Democrats as the inflation bill faced floor action.

The Roosevelt program to build a Tennessee River development around Muscle Shoals passed the House by 206 to 0. It creates a Tennessee authority to oversee dams at Cove Creek and Muscle Shoals, expands power generation, and allows sale of surplus power to states and municipalities. The measure also authorizes a $50 million bond issue and $10 million appropriation, with surveys to Congress on regional planning.
In Yonkers New York on April 25 a two year old girl named Helen Vasco is set for a delicate operation to remove a tumor behind her eye to save her life. Ordered by the appellate division after a bitter family dispute the operation may occur today or tomorrow. Helen is at St Johns Riverside Hospital with the procedure possibly at Grasslands Hospital East View. Her mother, an immigrant laborer, had opposed the operation but consented under condition of choosing the hospital and surgeon, having once said she would rather have God take Helen than lose an eye.
