The eleventh Civilisation episode titled The Worship of Nature will be shown at the Public Library on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The documentary was filmed in Switzerland and England.
Allandale Mansion operated by the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities for Kingsport is now open for summer hours weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 30 to 4 30 p.m. Group tours may be arranged by calling 249-813 or 248-8787. The Fine Arts Center displays Winslow Homer Illustrator in the main gallery through April 3 and Ann Staats weavings in the lobby gallery. A Brenda Mullins One Woman Show is in the Mead Auditorium at the public library through April 26 during regular hours.
Terrace Cinderella Charlie and the Angel ends Thursday along with State Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean and Martin Charlotte s Web and Strand Zant all wrapping up by Thursday.
Skylab the largest space station begins final four weeks of preparation on a Saturn rocket at Cape Kennedy. The unmanned launch is set for May 14 in a 270 mile high orbit, with three initial astronauts to depart May 15 aboard an Apollo command ship.
A string of killer tornadoes struck Texas from the Panhandle to the Gulf Coast Sunday, killing eight people and injuring 19. A Pearsall tornado trapped motorists on Interstate 35, destroying cars and killing five. Plainview losses included a child and a news editor. Corsicana and Rockport also reported damage and fatalities, while aircraft at Frio County Airport were destroyed and boats driven from moorings near Corpus Christi.
A helicopter with medical supplies was turned back by Oglala Sioux at Wounded Knee as militants blockade the hamlet for 48 days. Federal authorities sought to end the occupation without bloodshed while AIM leaders face arraignment in Pierre.
Tennessee lawmakers prepare a bill to allow a deputy governor elected with the gubernatorial candidate in 1974. Rep. Brad Martin says the deputy would serve as a top aide with a mandate from a popular vote. The session aims for a May 4 adjournment as debates continue on auto insurance, racing, and parimutuel betting.
London reports the 62 nation International Coffee Council voted to end price supports for green coffee, extending the agreement two years but removing market intervention powers. U.S. officials warn of a possible coffee war as exporting nations consider forming their own marketing group to buy surplus. President Nixon notes efforts to lower prices while maintaining supply-demand balance.
UPI reports at least 300 people died and about 1,500 were wounded as a tornado struck 15 villages in Faridpur District near Dacca last week. Janapad cites rising casualties while solar officials confirm 43 deaths. Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited the stricken area by helicopter. The storm brought 100 mph winds, flattened homes, uprooted trees, and damaged crops.
