MARISON Wisconsin April 10 A bill to remove Wisconsin from prohibition and shift liquor licensing to local units moves through the legislature Senator Thomas Duncan Milwaukee introduced the measure to repeal the Severson act abolish the prohibition commission and end state funding for the prohibition department giving towns villages and cities power to license and regulate intoxicating liquors and control drunkenness If rules permit passage the measure should take about three weeks to clear the legislature.
In New York on April 10 a black post office porter, Thomas J. Callegy, was arrested as the man who mailed a bomb addressed to Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt. He denied the charge, but inspectors found coils and wire at his Hoboken home matching device parts. He said the materials came from radio set repairs.
Mexican federal forces moved to complete occupation of Chihuahua state, confining rebels to Sonora and northern Sinaloa. Washington April 10 The diplomatic corps at a meeting at the British embassy decided to accord Mrs Edward Everett Gann wife of the vice president’s sister social status normally reserved for the wife of a vice president. The decision followed over an hour of discussion and will be sent by letter to Secretary Stimson through Sir Esme Howard.
In Chicago at the Stevens hotel lobby a Milwaukee foundry superintendent Harry Townsend was fatally stabbed by former employee Barl Rogers after a dispute at a convention. Townsend, 42, died early today from a severed jugular. Rogers surrendered claiming Townsend called him a scab and knocked him down. he said he acted in self defense with a knife.
Springfield April 10 Mrs Lottie Holman ONeill senior member of the Illinois House of Representatives resigns as vice president of the Illinois women’s Republican club protesting Ruth Hanna McCormick’s campaign influence. She cites campaign expenditures as blocking representative government and says her committee chair aims were blocked. McCormick met Governor Emmerson in Springfield but gave no comment.
Nashville April 10. The corporation law bill revising Tennessee corporation laws and lowering the incorporation rate is ready for the governor after passing the Senate easily. The Hall general revenue bill proposes a tax on power and transportation and lowers the land tax from 20 to 13 cents, with moves to postpone further action until tomorrow. A five cent tax on income from stocks and bonds also passed.
General J Gonzalo Escobar, revolutionary commander in chief, assumed personal command of rebel armies in Sonora as forces retreating from Chihuahua and Sinaloa flow into the state from two directions. He arrived at Auza Prieta near Waco on April 10, meeting rebel commander Fausto Tonete. The Chiuhua army advance guard was reported moving through Pulpito Pass, the mountains dividing Chihuahua and Sonora.
