Israel's Labor party endorsed Prime Minister Golda Meir's Middle East peace plan refusing to return to 1967 borders. Delegates approved the platform for national elections due by 1972 as Labor holds a large coalition majority.
A convoy of 800 soldiers and 150 vehicles exits Khe Sanh Route Nine bound for Vandergrift Base, as Americans wrap up the base after a 10 week stay. Communists shell the area but cause no casualties. some troops reflect on lost buddies. Bozo the deaf mascot dog accompanies the troops, signaling morale at departure.
Los Angeles reports at least three of six jurors who convicted 1st Lt. William L. Calley Jr. are reconsidering. Capt. Ronald Salem sought clemency petition possibilities while Maj. Carl Bierbaum and Harvey G. Brown were said to back the idea.
President Nixon planned a national address to announce a quicker U S troop withdrawal from Vietnam with targets near 50 000 by next year and current momentum under 300 000 in Vietnam as a step toward a politically acceptable force level.
