Bristol, Tenn April 6 Mrs Qoal Morton 27 of Radford Va died after an auto collision on the Johnson City highway south of Bristol. Her husband Jona than Morton and Hubert F Lem ming of Radford were seriously injured as were Len vine's wife and young son. C Webb of Richmond Va drove the northbound sedan. Webb faced a reck less driving charge later. Police investigated with state troopers and sheriff deputies.
Moscow seeks warmer ties with the United States as the Russo Finnish War ends, but Washington remains wary. Secretary Hull and Soviet Ambassador Gumanelsky met in a one hour overhang, with Moscow signaling a shift toward cautious amity while noting prior disputes and the broader war context.
In Bullivan County a record 6100 votes were cast as Democrats selected J J Newland for sheriff over J M Bond and D W Burgan. Newland carried Bristol heavily and won by 340 votes, while Hicks and Chase won tax assessor and school superintendent races. Adams led highway commissioner, Carr won county attorney, and Moody ran unopposed for tax assessor.
