A Tennessee legislative view argues current lobbyist rules are flawed and lawmaker rhetoric about the “third house” shows politics more show than reform. It notes existing statutes define lobbying actions and penalties, and urges repealing ineffective provisions before new registration bills are pursued.
Kent Stair of 126 Wateree Street was named Boy of the Year for 1962 at the Kingsport Boys Club Recognition Premier, held at the Strand Theater. The event closed National Boys Club Week with certificates of appreciation for 574 outstanding boys and 107 adult volunteers recognizing achievements in sports dramatics and service. Stair is the son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Stair and attends George Washington School.
Patsy Jean Felty, 26, of Bristol Tennessee, former bank employee, was arrested by FBI agents on a federal warrant issued at Greeneville on April 3. The $2,000 shortage relates to transfers from dormant savings to her own account. she was released on $35,000 bond and ordered to appear at the next U.S. District Court term in Greeneville.
The Small Business Administration will issue disaster loans to individuals businesses and nonprofits damaged by floods. Loans cover real estate equipment and furniture with up to 20 years to repay at 3 percent interest. Applicants must provide collateral if available and bring damage estimates to SBA field visits in Grundy Haysi Gate City Clinchport Lebanon and Tazewell during April.
Competitive bids will relocate four nitric acid concentrator units from Alabama Ordnance Works near Childersburg to Holston Ordnance Works near Kingsport. Project includes dismantling, shipping, erecting framework, installing a concentrator, piping, electrical work, a control house, a loading dock, utilities, paving, and a railroad spur. May 16 bid opening in Mobile. Small business concerns invited to bid.
