Tennessee farm milk production reached a record high in 1956 with about 2.493 billion pounds. Per cow output averaged 2,970 pounds, up from 1955. total dairy cows on Tennessee farms averaged 628,000 in 1958, down from 634,000 in 1935. Nationwide production surpassed 125 billion pounds, with per cow output over 6,000 pounds for the first time.
