Thief Steals Traveling Man’s Trousers From Hotel Arlington

A. A. Long, a traveling man, found his trousers missing after arriving at the Hotel Arlington Tuesday morning. The garments were fished out through the transom during the night and a search with pillows led to their recovery. He had twelve dollars in the pockets, but the pocketbooks were found abandoned in the alley without stamps. No arrest reported.

William A. Howard, sixth territorial governor of Dakota, succeeded Pennington in 1878. A former Michigan appointee and Vermont native born 1812, he served as Detroit postmaster and in Congress. His health failed early in 1880, but his tenure left a lasting, prudent imprint on the territory.
