Political dispute over 1906 07 state taxes in Kingsbury County

The piece argues the 1906 2 mill state tax burden and a quarter million debt left by the old administration forced the new regime to levy 1 mill to cover the debt. It criticizes machine newspapers for evading past levies while comparing tax receipts from 1903, 1905, and 1907 and asserts the present administration has been more economical. It also discusses national grain inspection and the Minnesota system, arguing federal inspection would disrupt a settled trade and should be postponed until market confidence is gained.

Rank falsehood used to attack state administration

The Argus Leader is accused of misrepresenting debt payoffs by claiming only five deficiency levies were used in fourteen years. The piece cites detailed bond and sinking fund levies totaling 58 mills to cover a $1,167,000 debt and argues the accusation misstates facts to skew perceptions of economy.
