Herndon, a well known Kings Mountain realty agent, has been seriously ill at Gaston General for the past two weeks. Family reports he is resting better this week but remains unable to receive visitors.
The Carolina Melody Boys will sing at the Second Wesleyan Methodist church on Sunday night May 23 with the public invited to attend.
Eade Ameroun, a student at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, arrives to serve as assistant to Rev. P. D. Patrick at First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Anderson, a North Carolinian raised near Brevard and Davidson College graduate, will help through the summer before returning to the seminary in the fall.
Mr and Mrs W U Grantham and Ned A McGill attended the annual North Carolina Merchants Association convention in Asheville on Monday and Tuesday. Grantham is a director and McGill secretary of the Kings Mountain Merchants Association.
Esper Bessemer City taxi driver was described as in lots better condition after a Monday morning assault at the Silver Dollar Grill on U S Route 29 south of Kings Mountain. Deputies report no robbery motive. two Harvey Bowman and Kent Bowman of Welch West Virginia were arrested. A rock was used in the attack and a possible money motive was considered before a suspect was found on Tate’s person. Police pursue further charges after hospital admission.
Airman Paul Roland Whalley of 34 died Sunday about 5 30 pm when a Cessna struck a high tension wire near Mauney Mill and crashed into the Glenn Smith yard. Eyewitnesses said he had flown over Bridges Airport three times before banking east at low altitude. CAA inspectors found no mechanical failure. The plane, nearly new with about 50 hours, had been rented from Cannon Airport in Charlotte. Cont'd on page eight.

J Tracy McGinnis & Son of Kings Mountain is named associate dealer for Kaiser Frazer cars in Kings Mountain and nearby area. Hunter Caldwell will handle sales while a 1948 Kaiser is on display. Tyner Motor Company of Shelby authorized the appointment and praises the firm's long standing service.

The Plonk School of Creative Arts in Asheville will present a Bible program at St. Matthew's Lutheran church Sunday at 5 30 pm. It features readings by students including Nancy Plonk Eleanor Myers and Lillian LeGrande with music and solos by the school group. Laura Plonk introduces readers and closes with prayers. The public is invited to attend.

Dr Paul M Wheeler head of the English department Winthrop College Rock Hill S C will address the annual Ladies Night banquet of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis club next Thursday night The banquet will be at the Woman's Club at 730 PM Announcement of the program was made by Dr P G Padgett chairman of arrangements Dr Padgett said Dr Wheeler will make a humorous address on Women Pro and Con Dr Padgett will serve as master of ceremonies at the banquet in which about 200 Kiwanis members wives and guests will be present Other committee members are Glee A Bridges Joe A Nessler Hugh Ballard and B S Peeler Special guests will include presidents of civic clubs and their wives in addition to out of town Kiwanis leaders.
Kings Mountain school band will give a free concert at Central auditorium Friday night at 7 30 according to an announcement Wednesday by Joe C Hedden director The WOW square dance will begin immediately after the band concert instead of at 8 p m as previously announced in order not to conflict with the school program Annual meeting of the band association will be held at intermission and all parents of band students are urged to attend Members of the Band A id club and all persons interested in the School band are invited to attend Mr Hedden said. Program will consist of marches overtures and popular selections and a large crowd is anticipated.
Kings Mountain Junior Chamber of Commerce will hold its Third Annual Miss Kings Mountain Beauty Pageant on June 25 with John Cheshire as general chairman. The contest will allow entrants ages 16 to 26, aligning local rules with state practice. Alternate winners will represent Kings Mountain if Miss Kings Mountain is under 18, with one alternate going to the state contest and another to the coastal festival.
As May 29 Democratic primary nears with eight days left, candidates push final efforts while registrars rush to add names. In Kings Mountain, national and local figures visit, including William B. Umstead and A L Bulwinkle. Campaigns for county offices intensify with Ellison v Blackburn and Bridges v Falls stirring local races.
Beth-Ware High announces commencement exercises for the senior class with Rev Lawrence Roberts and Rev Holland Harris delivering sermons, J L Summitt delivering the valedictory, Coleman Wright as salutatorian, and diplomas for Nancy Allen Martha Ledford Betty Putnam Lillie Wright Marguerite Wright Jack Baker Graven Putnam Manuel Ross Rueben Stroupe. Marshals are from the 11th grade and mascots are Kenneth Rayfield and Alice Maude Drake.
